How to Stop Avoiding Your Art Practice

We all procrastinate.

Some days it feels harder to find the time to make your art.
I know this is the case for me.
Here is a little way I have found to overcome this problem.

It just might help you too.

Let me know if this rings true – or not true at all – for your practice.

In gratitude, Nicholas

I can absolutely relate, especially in the dead cold of a Canadian January when I must bundle up and drive to my icebox warehouse studio. But I also remind myself as you do that once I get there, it’s going to be “fun”.

Ha, I was just about to say the same. My studio’s so cold I am actually scared to go in there. 🙂

Thanks for sharing this video and for taking the time out of your busy schedule to make it. I’m a mid life newbie to making art and I am very insecure about it. I love it, but sometimes feel like I’m being silly to think I can be an artist. But I do find encouragement in your newsletters and in this video. So, I think I’ll keep trying.

I’ve been loving your blog posts, and this one really resonated with me! Now I need to find a way to stop procrastinating about exercise:) Thanks!

Yeah especially after all those rich foods over the holidays! I am running but I am going slower!

Nice post, love the video format; it’s all in the mind, put the worrying chastising thoughts aside and replace with better ones like “vacations!” which are always FUN! But! What I want to know is: what was that flash of colors you picked up? A box of oil pastels? Paint sticks? What’s the brand? Please tell, curious minds want to know…

Thank you, Nicholas. I think we all suffer from resistance to doing the work we love sometimes…odd paradox it is!

hey Nicholas, Great to see your thoughts captured in video. Another common denominator point raised for all us artists, I’ll be ‘designing’ my studio time with vacation vocabulary going forward with my practice. Thanks again for your great content both written and spoken.

Great insight. I’ve had the exact experience and over the years boiled it down to the realization that I “only stress when I’m not working.” And as I sit here in the 4th day bedridden with flu, seeing this reminded me that ‘m not alone in this and , it’s ok…thanks
