A great way to begin a painting is to start putting down marks completely different from what you normally do. It’s refreshing and can push your work in new, unexpected directions.
How do you start?

I like this idea. In the last few years I started using ‘end of the day’ paint – not enough to save but still felt wasteful to throw it away. So I used this paint on blank (gessoed) cannvases. I love the depth it provides to start the next painting. Now having seen this blog, I am excited to push this idea further in my new work.
