I’m in the studio today, and I’ve got exciting news to share with you.
We just opened registration for this year’s two destination retreats. One’s in Mexico, in a beautiful spot in Playa del Carmen, and the other is on the coast of Italy.
These are incredible places to make art. We’re opening registration earlier than usual this year, and they tend to fill up quickly.

Now, something else I’ve been working on today that I think you’ll love…
At our retreats, artists often create a body of work – usually around 10 to 15 paintings. And the question always comes up… how do I show these?
That’s what I’m sharing today.
Years ago, I learned how to create custom frame finishes from a framer, and it’s not only cost-effective, but it completely changed the way I present my work.
At Art2Life, we offer raw, high-quality wooden frames that are ready for you to customize to match your series.
Today, I’m walking you through how I paint and finish these wood frames — from Step 1 (lightly sanding and applying a coat of Lila’s White paint, which you can find here, all the way to Step 6, where the surface becomes super smooth and looks just gorgeous.
This process is especially useful if you’re showing multiple pieces together. When all the frames are finished in the same way, the whole set comes alive – it adds so much value to the work because it looks cohesive and intentional.
And if you want to use the same 12×12 or 18×18 frames I used, you can find them here:

Have you tried painting your own frames before? I think there’s something really satisfying about doing it yourself and creating something that feels totally yours.
Let me know what you think in the comments.
Hope you get to make some art today.
