You know that feeling when you work on a painting for hours… and at the end of the day, you realize you haven’t actually made it any better?
You think you’re improving it. But somehow it never really gets stronger. It’s so frustrating.
My dad had this saying when I was growing up about putting energy into something that fundamentally wasn’t working well. He’d say, “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.”
Here’s what I’ve learned after years of working with deadlines for exhibitions: there’s a game-changing difference between the paintings that have juice and energy from the start, and the ones that are beautiful but… you’d just walk right by them.
Click below to watch today’s Sunday BLOOM, where I share a time-saving tip and show you exactly what I mean using two paintings side by side.
But here’s what I want to know: Does this resonate with your experience? Do you find yourself spending too much time trying to perfect something that doesn’t have a strong foundation?
Let me know in the comments after you watch the video.
I hope you get to make some art today and take some big chances.
Your strongest work is waiting for you.
Talk soon,
Nicholas
